When chatting to my friend yesterday, he reminded me of some classic 90's adverts and being a 90's kid myself, it was great to relive some of those childhood ads.
This is one area where my passion for advertising really comes through, the fact that I was about 6 or 7 at the very most when most of these adverts came out, yet I still remember them nearly 14 years on. Great advertising should always stick in someones head, of course it's a lot more challenging today than it was in the 90's, because creativity and the technology that is available to us today has changed drastically. But for now, lets travel back to a simpler time in advertising.
First up, an advert which I think everyone will remember during their life time - Toys R Us
Next up - Puppy in my Pocket.
I've never forgotten the jingle for this advert. I was mad for Puppy in my Pocket's as a child, I had hundreds of them! I remember walking round the house singing the song from this advert. However, I don't remember the ad being so sickly. It obviously worked at the time though.
Now something else I remember vidly as a kid. The Coca Cola advert - you knew Christmas was around the corner when you saw this. I love that after all these years, this concept is still used and even today, I don't feel Christmassy, or excited for Christmas until I see this advert. This is a prime example of classic advertising in its best form.
Another advert I adored at the time, is the old Guinness "Dancing Man" ad. Being about 4 when this advert came out I didn't really understand it, I just thought it was funny and the music was catchy. Consequently I have always remembered the ad.
Now I'm older and know what they say about how it takes a minute to pour a good pint of Guinness, I think this ad is amazing. It's funny and entertaining, but really gets across the anticipation of waiting for your pint. Brilliant ad.
I'll never forget the Action Man adverts because they were so over the top! I would love to see an advert like that today just to see how people would react to it.
It was great for its time though, loud, in your face, over the top and Action Man always prevailed making him a hero in young boys eyes and the action figure every boy wanted.
Who could forget Mr Frosty? Another catchy jingle which I still remember today.
Finally one of the most iconic adverts from the 90's, the Diet Coke ads. A concept that is still being used today in Coke's advertising.
